The latest Fairway Golf Group holiday took place from 30th April-6th May. Our base for the week was new venue Vila Gale Albacora situated about 2 miles from centre of Tavira, a really beautiful hotel in a quiet but lovely location.
As with all Fairway Groups clients all met up on Sunday Night for Welcome drinks followed by 3 course Buffet meal, this is where the host Sean Coyle can go through all the itinerary for the week, it was really nice to meet some new clients to the Fairway family, who were all really nice and settled in great.
Opening day of the week was at Seve design Quinta da Vale a tough course with plenty of water, unusual mix of six par 3’s, six par 4’s and six par 5’s, stunning looking course from the clubhouse even better with the beautiful sunshine we had and was in fine condition. The toughness of the course reflected in the scores with Pat McAlhone 24 points taking the ladies, with Newcomer Malcom Ward 27 points winning the men's daily prize.
Day 2 was again played in beautiful sunshine at client favourite Quinta de Cima, I have to say the condition of the course especially the fairways was some of the best I have come across I the Algarve, Cima is always a tough course because of its length and often tight fairways, again the scores were quite difficult. Fairway regular Ann Seabrook won the day in the ladies, with another newcomer Peter Milestone taking the spoils for the men, The Famous yellow ball team event was won by Anne Seabrook, Jean Oates, Peter Milestone & yours truly.
As is tradition on Fairway Groups, Wednesday is rest day when players can either do a bit of sunbathing, sightseeing or play some more golf, with the weather being so warm, think most clients took up the first option, the beauty of this hotel was a small jetty boat took you over to a small island in 5 minutes that was a really lovely place to spend a few hours
Day 3 of the Week was the only day we did not see sunshine, still a calm day and perfect for golf, the venue was Benamor were the players can open there shoulders a little, this reflected in the scores, Ann Seabrook 37 points taking the ladies for a second day, with Newcomer Gordon Milestone best of the week 43 points taking the day in the men's, the mixed pairs event went to Anne Seabrook & Robin Seabrook with an outstanding 46 points not bad considering they weren't happy when drawn together, just shows.
Final golf day of the week we will at Quinta da Ria sister to Cima we played earlier in the week, the weather was sunny but with a very strong wind, again the condition of the fairways was first class. Final day is longest drive and nearest the pin for both Ladies & Men’s. Longest drive for the ladies went to Jean Oates who made it a nice double by also taking the Ladies Individual on the day. Longest drive for the men went to Robin (Bubba) Seabrook. The nearest the pin went to Anne Seabrook & Gordon Milestone respectively, Gordon also making it a double by winning the day prize.
As with all Fairway Groups once the golf is over the players have a nice rest day to get themselves ready for the Gala Presentation Dinner, I must say all the ladies looked fantastic after a hard week in the sun lol. The ladies overall prize went to Fairway legend Anne Seabrook who got stronger has the week went on, the Men's overall went to Newcomer Gordon Milestone who again really found his form towards latter part of week, really hope Gordon and all the newcomers enjoyed the Fairway family and will return. Our next trip is the Algarve Championship from 15th-22nd October (details on home page) a few places still available for our 2nd Championship. We then finish the year at Dom Joao Hotel (Alvor) 5th-12th November. List of all 2017/20218 weeks are now on website, just click on the Future Events link to access the latest brochure.
