The latest Fairway GGCH took place in the Algarve from 15th‐22nd March 2015. Our base for the week was at the Vila Gale Ampalius in Vilamoura venue for next year's Inaugural Fairway Golf Group Algarve Championship. The week starts on the Sunday night where the guests enjoy a 3‐course meal with wine included, this gives the ladies and gentlemen a chance to meet each other in a friendly relaxed manner, this is also where the host, Sean Coyle, goes through the week's itinerary, competitions, courses, start times, etc.
The 1st day was at the very underated Millenium Golf Course. The layout of the course was very impressive and was in good condition. The weather was sunny and in the 70s perfect for golf. Some very good scores from both Ladies & Gentleman. Bev Davis taking the spoils with 34 points for the Ladies, with Tim Osman 35 points for the men.
On to day 2 at everyone&s favourite the beautiful old course in Vilamoura, Conditions early on where great, but had some heavy showers on the back nine. Ladies & Gents competition was a very close affair with Bev Davis winning for the second day running on a card playoff. Bob Darlow with best of the week 37 points coming out on top in Men&s. Day 2 we run a yellow ball team event which was won by Anne Seabrook, John Robertson and John Hodgson.
Wednesday is a rest day when the guests can top up their tan, do a bit of sightseeing or even play some extra golf.
Day 3 was played at Oceanico Victoria home of the Portugal Masters for past 8 years. The venue just ooses class from the outstanding clubhouse to the beautiful manicured fairways, so pleased it is part of next years Championship.Conditions where the toughest we had all week which reflected in the Ladies scores. Ann Seabrook won the day with 23 points. Michael Craddock with a very impressive 34 points winning the day in the Men&s. We also had a Mixed Combination pairs, with Deirdre Darlow & Mike Burke on 39 points winning by 1 shot.
Final day was at the Quinta do Lago South. Each day every venue had improved and this continued playing this very special course. Each hole has it&s own identity and trully is a classic, Both Ladies & Mens competitions where decided by a card playoff. Ann Seabrook edging out Bev Davis on 26 points, with Bob Darlow edging out Tim Osman on 33 points for second win of the week. Final day means Men&s & Ladies Longest Drive and a Nearest the Pin. The Menís Longest Drive went to John Robertson with the Ladies going to Kath Barnes, Nearest the Pin for the Men was Tim Osman with Deirdre Darlow taking the Ladies prize.
Saturday is a rest day when most of the Guests relax in the Sun before getting ready for our 3 Course A La Carte Gala Dinner & Presentation (Wine included) with . This is a very friendly relaxed night when the guests having spent a week together really enjoy themselves. I have to say a big thank you to Vila Gale Ampalius and its staff the meal we had was possibly the best we had in the Algarve in all the years of the groups, so competitors in next year Championship are in for a treat.The Ladies Overall went to Bev Davis by 6 shots from Anne Seabrook, Bev won 2 days and never more than 1 shot off the lead on other days. Only 2 shots separated 2nd‐4th in the Mens event but very consistent Tim Osman winning by an impressive 7 shots on 127 points, well done both of you. Shot of the Week went to Derrick Mullard for an amazing 80ft putt with 20ft of break on it.
