The latest Fairway GGCH took place in the Algarve from 26th April‐3rd May. Our base for the week was the lovely Balaia Golf Village at Oihos da Agua. As with all our group holidays the week starts on Sunday Night where the guests enjoy a complimentary drink, followed by 3‐course meal with wine included. This gives the Ladies and gentlemen a chance to meet each other in a friendly relaxed manner, this is also where the host, Sean Coyle, goes through the week's itinerary, competitions, courses, start times, etc.
Day 1 was played at the lovely re vamped Quinta da Lago North. The course has a beautiful mix of holes, with tees, greens and fairways in fantastic condition. Taking the spoils on day 1 was Anne Seabrook with a very impressive 37 points.
Lovely blue skies throughout day on Vale do Lobo Royal. What a day this turned out for day 1 winner Anne Seabrook. On day 2 we have Yellow ball team event which was won by Anne Seabrook, Barry Cooper & yours truly. Taking the spoils in the individual was Anne Seabrook again with 32 points. The 16th hole at Vale do Lobo Royal is one of the most photographed holes in golf, it is also one of the most difficult par 3s. Most people who manage to get a par will tell there friends at the club about it for weeks. Anne Seabrook only went one better with a 2 on the hole.
Wednesday is a rest day when the guests can top up their tan, do a bit of sightseeing or even play some extra golf.
Beautiful sunny day again at the very impressive Laranjal. Pairs event on the day went to Barry Cooper & Anne Seabrook. The individual was a close affair with Barry Cooper on 32 points taking the spoils.
Final day was played at at Vale do Lobo Ocean, this was my first playing of the course and was impressed. Some of the views on the back 9 are breathtaking. Nearest the pin on finals day went to Tony Fletcher, with longest drive going to Barry Cooper. Individual on final day went to Barry Cooper edging out yours truly on a card play off.
Saturday is a rest day when most of the Guests relax in the Sun before getting ready for our 3‐Course A La Carte Gala Dinner & Presentation (Wine included). This is a very friendly relaxed night when the guests having spent a week together really enjoy themselves and discuss the ifs & maybes. This was the first time we have had a tie overall on a Fairway Golf Group week between Anne Seabrook & Barry Cooper, but going off final day counting Overall went to Barry. A big well done to both of you. Each group holiday we have a "shot of the week" which is normally very hard to choose, but Anne Seabrook's fantastic shot on 16th Vale do Lobo Royal followed by a great putt for a 2 was the clear winner.
