The latest Fairway GGCH took place in the Algarve from 2nd‐9th November 2014. Our base for the week was at the lovely Dom Joao Hotel, 5 minutes from the lovely town of Alvor with a great choice of bars and restaurants. The week started on the Sunday night where the guests enjoyed a 3‐course meal with wine included, this gives the ladies and gentlemen a chance to meet each other in a friendly relaxed manner, this is also where the host, Sean Coyle, goes through the week's itinerary, competitions, courses, start times, etc.
The 1st day was at the impressive Gramacho Golf Course.Some fantastic holes, and the course was in fantastic condition. The weather was not its usual self and was quite windy.The Men's winner with a best of the week 37 Points was Bob Darlow.The Ladies winner was Deirdre Darlow making it a nice family double.
Day 2 was at the lovely Vale Da Pinta alongside the Mens and Ladies event, we had the Yellow ball team event, which is always a lot of fun, and it did not disappoint Weather was much better. The Mens winner was Peter Ridding with 32 Points, with a very impressive 24 Points from Anne Seabrook winning the Ladies. The Yellow ball team event went to Mike Trubshoe, Deirdre Darlow, Colin Whiteside, and yours truly.
Wednesday is a rest day when the guests can top up their tan, do a bit of sightseeing or even play some extra golf, which a few of the guests did at Alto Golf Club.
On to Day 3 at the outstanding Palmares. This was my first time playing here and was very impressed, the condition and layout of course was first class. The weather was good on front nine, little dull on the back. Making it two wins on the week was Peter Ridding in Men's with 30 points. In the ladies also making it two wins was Deirdre Darlow with best of the week 29 Points. The pairs event for the week also took part and was won by Peter Ridding & Anne Seabrook on 40 points.
Final day was at the beautifully laid out Silves, The conditions were very tough with the course having a downpour just before our teetimes The Men's winner was Michael Trubshoe with a very impressive 35 points, Anne Seabrook took her second win of the week with 25 points in the Ladies.
The Men's overall was won by Peter Ridding who was very consistent all week never under 28 points. The Ladies was much closer with Deirdre Darlow edging out Anne Seabrook by two shots. Well done to Peter & Deirdre.
On the final day we have a Men's & Ladies Longest Drive and a Nearest the Pin. The Men's Longest Drive went to Michael Trubshoe with the Ladies going to Anne Seabrook, Nearest the Pin for the Men was Bob Darlow with Lady Golfer of the week Deirdre Darlow taking the Ladies prize.
Saturday is a rest day when most of the Guests relax in the Sun before getting ready for our 3 Course Gala Dinner & Presentation (Wine included) with Entertainment. This is a very friendly relaxed night when the guests having spent a week together really enjoy themselves. Along with the Prizes for each of the days mentioned we also award a Shot of the Week which went to Joan Hodgson for a great shot to the par 3 10th at Gramacho.
