Our final Fairway GGCH of 2015 took place from 11th‐18th October at the lovely Vila Gale Tavira Hotel in Tavira. As with all our group holidays the week starts on Sunday night where the guests enjoy a complimentary drink, followed by 3‐course meal with wine included. This gives the ladies and gentlemen a chance to meet each other in a friendly relaxed manner, this is also where the host, Sean Coyle, goes through the week's itinerary, competitions, courses, start times etc.
Our First day was played at Quinta de Cima, after a cloudy start the sun came out and we enjoyed a very sunny day with a slight breeze. The course is a fine layout with plenty of bunkers protecting the greens, which reflected in some high scores. The Ladies Individual went to Jean Oates on 24 points, with Bob Darlow taking the men's on 25 points.
Day 2 was a beautiful sunny day throughout on the lovely and underrated Benomor. Layout and condition of course was excellent. The Yellow ball team event turned into a very one sided affair with Sheila Thompson, Jean Oates, Mike Trubshoe & Bob Darlow taking the spoils with an outstanding 95 points. The Ladies Event went to Sheila Thompson with a best of the week 32 points, with Mike Trubshoe's excellent 42 points taking the Men's by 10 shots.
Wednesday is a rest day when the guests can top up their tan, do a bit of sightseeing or even play some extra golf.
Our third day was back at Quinta to play the other Course Quinta da Ria. Outstanding weather again on probably the hottest day of the week. Great layout on Ria, with course in fantastic condition. The pairs event was a very close thing with Bob Darlow & Harry Baker 38 points, just edging out Sheila Thompson & Steve Partington on a card play-off. The Ladies individual was even closer with Pat McAlhone 29 points edging out Sheila Thompson on back 6 play‐off. In the men's Bob Darlow won his second day of the week with a very good 32 points.
Final day was played at the Fabulous Monte Rei. This Course is ranked #1 in the Algarve, but it is also one of the finest in the World. From the welcome through to the staff cleaning your clubs, everything oozes class. It really is a privilege to pay. The weather was overcast when we started but the sun came through in the afternoon. Final day means nearest the pin & longest drive. Nearest the Pin for the Ladies went to Pat McAlhone, with Mike Trubshoe taking the Men's. Longest drive for the Ladies went to Sheila Thompson and Steve Partington for the men. The Ladies event to Jean Oates with an impressive 30 points for her second win of the week, Harry Baker with an excellent 31 points taking the Men's event.
