Fairway Regular Trip — April 2015
The latest Fairway GGCH took place in the Algarve from 12th‐19th April 2015. Our base for the week was at the very popular Dom Joao Hotel in Alvor. As with all our group holidays, the week starts on Sunday night where the guests enjoy a complimentary drink, followed by 3dash;course meal with wine included, this gives the ladies and gentlemen a chance to meet each other in a friendly relaxed manner, this is also where the host, Sean Coyle, goes through the week's itinerary, competitions, courses, start times, etc.
Day 1 was played in beautiful sunshine at the impressive Silves Golf Club (or should I say O'Connor course because that is were yours truly ended up, and took quite some stick the rest for the rest of the week, all good fun) Course was fair but in very good condition, and scores were good. Taking the spoils for the Ladies on day one was newcomer to the group Sue Tickle with best of the week 36 points (Ladies) and a 9 shot victory. The men's was a much closer affair with Richard Smith taking the Men's with 32 Points.
From the lovely sunshine of Monday to strong winds and overcast on day 2, quite a contrast. That said both Men's and Ladies winning scores were in the 30s. On day 2 we have the famous yellow ball team competition which is always great fun and generally close. Well it was fun but not close, and continuing the theme of large margins, scraping home by 18 points was Sandra Smith, Robin Seabrook, and Peter Maguire. This was a week of big winning margins in the ladies, and runaway winner at Gramacho was Sandra Smith 32 points, taking the spoils by 11 shots. Again the men's was closer with Peter Maguire taking the day on 32 points.
Wednesday is a rest day when the guests can top up their tan, do a bit of sightseeing or even play some extra golf.
The beautiful sunshine returned for Thursday on the always impressive Vale da Pinta. The theme of big margins went to another level. Alongside the individual event we had a mixed pairs, which was won in some style by newcomers Sue & Richard Tickle 46 points (11 shots) Ladies event went to Sue Tickle on 36 points, her 2nd 9 shot victory of the week. After a steady start to the week newcomer Richard Tickle with best of the week 40 points spread eagled the field by 13 shots.
Final day was played at the very impressive championship course of Palmares, which will host The Inaugural Fairway Golf Group Algarve Championship (10th‐17th April 2016). Really is a pleasure to play this course. Conditions were fine for golf sunny and very little wind, final day means nearest the pin & longest drive. Nearest the Pin for the ladies was Ann Seabrook, and for the men Richard Smith. Longest drive for the Ladies which nearly reached the Men's was Sandra Smith, and making it a family double Richard Smith for the men. After 3 days of large margins final day was much closer with A fine round of 33 points by Ann Seabrook winning the ladies, and making it a great day for himself Richard Smith on 32 points for the men.
Saturday is a rest day when most of the Guests relax in the Sun before getting ready for our 3 Course A La Carte Gala Dinner & Presentation (Wine included) . This is a very friendly relaxed night when the guests having spent a week together really enjoy themselves and discuss the ifs & maybes. The Ladies overall went to Sandra Smith with a very impressive total of 112 points, with Men's overall going to Group rookie Richard Tickle on 123 points. Our shot of the week went to Ann Wyatt, for a great chip in on 14th at Vale da Pinta. Well done everyone!
